THE DESIGNER

Anthony Hurd began his career restoring and rebuilding ex government, industrial and mid-century furniture. This gave Anthony the opportunity to work with many elements of furniture construction and finishing techniques. It was the beginning of his passion and knowledge of all types of local and international timber varieties, which remains a major part of his design trade today.

He began designing in 1991 with his first pieces available for commercial sale in 1993 when the ALTONE label was born.

When Anthony is designing, he is inspired by shape, architecture and colour. Every piece is given a great amount of time in conceptual and prototype stage prior to being released. Anthony believes furniture needs beauty and longevity in its form and function. His extensive knowledge and passion for furniture form creates modern, yet classic and confident pieces that have a great presence in any space.
